The Decemberists - "The Rake's Song"

I was a bit skeptical about The Decemberists' new album at first, mostly due to the fact that they signed with Capitol Records. I was afraid that they'd lose their indie vibe, as snobby as that sounds, but I really had nothing to worry about. I was a bit confused as far as the storyline goes when I'd heard only this song because it's all about a character named Rake killing all of his children. I couldn't believe how dark and morbid the concept of the album was, especially for The Decemberists. But it turns out that Rake is the villian in the story, which can be confusing because Colin Meloy does the voice for both him and the protagonist. I guess I need to hear the whole album to figure out what's going on exactly, but lyrics aside, this song is great, even compared to their older music. I wasn't the least bit disappointed.
