The Golden Boys - "Older Than You"So far this year, the song that has grown on me the most comes from a compilation that I haven't spent a whole lot of time discussing, despite it's unsung greatness. Garage rock sure has seen an increase in popularity this year (that is, until all the critics got headaches a few months in) and Casual Victim Pile was really a breakthrough record. The Golden Boys' track stood out to me specifically, being the quintessence of straight-forward garage rock: loud, fast, and inexplicably phenomenal. "Older Than You" is proof that the genre has evolved since the days when the White Stripes and the Hives ruled the speakers in kids' bedrooms across the country, and I couldn't be more excited about it. The song almost sounds mature in a way, something the White Stripes weren't able to do without bending and breaking their sound completely. I look forward to a strong debut record.
