Japandroids - "Darkness On The Edge of Gastown"

I never really got too excited about Post-Nothing, so I wasn't expecting much from the new Japandroids release made up of early tracks that apparently didn't make the cut. In fact, if there are two things I hate, they're over-hyped Death From Above sound-alike groups and EPs made up of songs that are so bad they didn't make it onto certain albums. But what Japandroids did here was shocking to say the least, as the songs, "Gastown" most notably, were much more Taking Back Sunday-like yet surprisingly good. I guess it's the energy and raw power that makes this song stand out compared to the others, and the fact that it has some sort of melody to it rather than just a wall of noise. It's important to strike a balance when making music like this (as DFA did so perfectly), and Japandroids definitely did so here.
