Bon Iver - "Blood Bank"

Much like Girls (the band, that is), it took me awhile to fully realize the greatness of Bon Iver. But one night I heard Justin Vernon playing "Skinny Love" on Letterman and I was instantly hooked. Vernon's voice, like Chris Owens', may take some getting used to, but songs like "Skinny Love," and more recently "Blood Bank," are just plain beautiful and somewhat haunting. Also, the lyrics to "Blood Bank" are some of the best he's ever written, and quite relevant to the forthcoming holiday, as the bleak, snowy landscape reflects Vernon's nostalgic view of a sexy run-in at a blood bank. I swear, if there's one man on earth who could depict such an oddly romantic scene as this so flawlessly, it would be Mr. Vernon. Although it takes the band in a different direction after For Emma, it was interesting to hear what he sounds like in a recording studio, rather than an old shack.
