Girls - "Hellhole Ratrace"

After reading about this band on every music website I visited on a daily basis last year, I felt like I needed to hear what all the hype was about. Like most other people, the first thing I noticed was the singer's dreadfully whiny, and on this song, sluggish, vocals. I absolutely detested this song, as it was simply the same few lines being repeated over and over for five minutes or so. But after a month, it just hit me out of nowhere that this was, in fact, a fantastic song. The vocals are actually quite fitting, once you're accustomed to them, and the slow crescendo near the end is quite impressive. The song always makes me nostalgic for a teenhood I never experienced, and by the end, I'm always thirsting for more.
