Dntel - "The Distance"

Remember the Postal Service? I was shocked at how few of my friends knew that the band wasn't just "Ben Gibbard and some other guy." It just so happens that that "other guy" is half the genius behind the project. I guess I always just assumed that Dntel was one of those artists like The Books who makes weird instrumental music, and Jimmy Tamborello was looking for one of the most popular indie singer/songwriters in the business to gain him some popularity. But now that I know a bit about his background, I think his only intention for the project was to make great music. He has a great voice himself, and I guess he was just bored and wanted to jam with a pal of his. "The Distance" is one of the more memorable products of the last few years of his career, as it captures his sluggish, almost lonely vibes at their essence. Instead of strumming away at an acoustic guitar and whining about his troubles, he channels these feelings into the sound he's making, which earns some points in my book.
