French Resistance - "G.I.R.L.F.R.E.N. (You Know I've Got A)"
It seems that after last year's disappointing
Art Brut vs Satan, I've been somewhat cold towards the British pop rockers who brought us such great songs as "Modern Art" and "Emily Kane." Well, Eddie Argos is back, but this time with his "girlfren" to bring us a collection of honest, politically correct versions of popular songs, such as Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend." Under the moniker Everybody Was In The French Resistance...NOW!, Argos and Dyan Valdés give us an interseting take on the once popular pop song, complete with a hand-clap breakdown and catchy chorus. When I first heard this, I was disgusted with them for lowering their standards so far as to rip off an Avril song, but I think the concept for the album is quite interesting. Also, I give the band props for encouraging an all-day Brut fest this past Friday. Good stuff.
