The New Pornographers - "Crash Years"So I was pretty bummed about Together until I heard "Crash Years" the other day, which sounds much more like a song from Twin Cinema or one of those other classic New Pornographers disks. I had read all sorts of good things about the new album, but was pretty disappointed with the title track. "Crash Years" had less of a cheesy, triumphant "we're still awesome!" vibe to it, and more of a subtle "yeah, I guess we're still pretty alright" feel, which is what I hope for in one of their songs. I wouldn't quite call it "best of" material, but at least I'm relieved to know that the band hasn't completely disintegrated into merely decent side-projects.
